John Stevenson Jr, 86 of Champaign, passed away on Monday, April 8th, 2024 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, April 14th from 11am-3pm at The Stevenson Residence, 2301 Valley Brook Drive in Champaign. Visitation will be from 11-Noon on Monday, April 15th at Kruger Funeral Home, 10 E. William Street in Danville. Services will follow at Noon with Rev. Macy Ruple officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memoria Park with full military honors by American Legion Post 210.

John was born on June 7, 1937 in Darby, PA to John and Gladys (Nagle) Stevenson Sr. His parents moved to Danville in 1942 when his father joined the Navy during WWII. He attended Danville area schools, graduating from Danville High School in 1955. While at DHS, he earned athletic letters in baseball and basketball. John served as a US Naval Reservist until September of 1962. He went on to attend the University of Illinois where he earned both a BS in Mathematics and an MBA in Industrial Marketing, and became a member and president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

John served from 1985-2007 as Corporate Officer of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University. He developed the marketing plan for the program, and introduced and supervised a comprehensive partnership program to over 20 corporations in 13 business sectors. On May 15, 2014 he was inducted into the Danville High School Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments. In 2015, he was also awarded the Honorary “I” from the University of Illinois for his loyalty and contributions throughout the years.

John held the position of Director of Marketing for AT&T Consumer Products from 1962 to 1985. He held a variety of positions throughout the years at both Illinois Bell and AT&T.  A true outdoorsman, John loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the Illini and followed all of their sports, especially football, basketball, and baseball. John’s utmost priority however was his family; he supported them, their life endeavors, and their further educations.

John leaves behind his children: Scott Stevenson (Jeremy Burmeister), April Drummond (Charlie), Katie Bermingham (Ben), Todd Cannaday (Kris Ann) and Amy Keirstead (Brett); his daughter-in-law: Alison Stevenson; grandchildren: Shane and Tyler Stevenson, Hudson Drummond, Joanna and William Bermingham, Ty Cannaday and Taylor Bowman, and Hannah Wargo, Morgan Keirstead, and Eli Keirstead. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeff Stevenson, and a son-in-law: Barry Pankonin.
